FERPA
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 allows access to online or printed academic
and personal student information by university employees with a "need to know." Access to this
information is given by the Registrar’s Office and is governed by specific responsiblities and
limitations, including not disclosing any student's directory information and not allowing your
ID to be used by others not authorized for such access.
Directory information includes the following:
- Name
- Former Name
- Local and Permancent Address
- Telephone Number
- Major and minor fields of study
- Class (e.g., freshman, sophomore)
- Participation in officially-recognized sports
- Weight & height of athletic team members
- Dates of attendance including hours enrolled
- Degrees
- Certificates Earned
- Awards received (including President’s Honor Roll)
- Last School Attended

(FERPA) for more information.
If you will have access to personal online information in your WSU job, you must participate in on-campus FERPA
training or the online Ferpa taining available through the Registrar's Office (FERPA Certification).
