The DDP Web site will soon have a new look, new navigation, and much more! We’ve been working hard to update, reorganize, and refresh the DDP Web site content to make it more user-friendly and easy to navigate. You’ll find new, helpful options in myDDP and new Current Student “Help Centers” that make finding the information you need simple. Here’s a sneak peek of the new site:

New Business Major: Entrepreneurship

You know you have a million-dollar business concept. But do you have the knowledge and skills to make it a reality? DDP’s newest major, Entrepreneurship, will provide the foundation you need to successfully launch your own business or lead product innovation at businesses from startups to well established corporations.

Offered in partnership with the College of Business, the online Entrepreneurship major builds on business fundamentals and offers a curriculum that develops a unique skill set necessary for successful entrepreneurship.

With the exception of one course, the Entrepreneurship major’s core requirements are now available through DDP. If you are interested in pursuing the online Entrepreneurship major, contact your advisor at 800-222-4978.

Locate Fellow DDP Students Near You

Your ASWSU-DDP student government officers are continually looking for ways to enhance students’ experience taking online courses. Many students have requested a way to connect and work with other students, so this summer A-DDP developed a “Hometown Locator” program. This program allows you to register in the system and find others who have also registered who live in your geographic area. You can find the program at http://aswsu-ddp.wsu.edu/hometown/. Give it a try!

  • ASWSU-DDP 2007-2008 Food Drive
This year our community outreach will be in the form of a food drive. We are collecting food and/or donations for several food banks. We will be taking food collections during the new Cougar Hardwood Classic event and at the Tacoma Rendezvous.

Our President, Andrew Zander, has secured some very special items from the Athletic Department to be raffled off at each of these events. All you have to do is bring food or money! It’s as simple as that! We want to fill the food banks during the holiday season so organize a company drive, neighborhood drive, or just participate yourself. Bring your donations to a DDP event! Let’s show Washington that Cougar students care!

  • Cougar Hardwood Classic
Mark your calendars for this new ASWSU-DDP event! ASWSU-DDP will host a pre-game reception prior to the Cougar Hardwood Classic basketball game. Come cheer on our beloved Cougs as they take on The Citadel! This event will take place on December 20, 2007 in Seattle, Washington. Stay tuned for more information. http://www.aswsu-ddp.wsu.edu/events/

  • December Graduation
Graduation is fast approaching. It may be hard to focus on graduation while you are staying focused on your studies. However, many have been working hard to make your journey from student to graduate a memorable event. ASWSU-DDP will be hosting a reception for DDP graduates and their guest on Friday, December 7 from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the Lewis Alumni Center on the Pullman campus. Please make sure you register for the wonderful evening that you and your family will enjoy and remember. http://www.aswsu-ddp.wsu.edu/events/

  • Experience Student Government
ASWSU-DDP Student Leadership is looking for students who are creative, innovative, and want to make a difference. We have committees that are here to help enhance and broaden the DDP experience but need your expertise to do that. There is something for everyone, please join us. Please visit the ASWSU-DDP Web site for more information at aswsu-ddp.wsu.edu/committees/2007-2008/.

There are many other committees ready and willing to include more members. Get involved! You will be glad you did.

  • Ask your Student Government Leadership
Have a question or suggestion? Check out the ASWSU-DDP message boards. Want to contact a Senator? You can through the use of the message boards or by “stopping by” during “office hours.” Did you know that you can attend a DDP senate meeting? You can! See your Senators at work for you.

This is your student government. We are here for all DDP students and encourage student participation in all our meetings.

Academic Deficiency Regulation Changes

New Requirements for Business Majors

A new requirement for majors in the College of Business, the global learning requirement, has gone into effect beginning this fall semester. The intent of the global learning requirement is to provide students with opportunities to develop skills and knowledge to succeed in the global marketplace. This requirement will apply only to students who were not certified into their major before the beginning of the fall semester, August 20, 2007.

This new requirement is an addition to the degree requirements for students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, which includes both Management and Operations and Management Information Systems majors.

Business majors who are not yet been certified by their department will be notified by their advisor by mail with a letter and an updated Academic Progress Report (APR). The updated APR will highlight changes to the student’s requirements relating to the global learning requirement. Because all students are at varying points in completing their degree and have taken different courses, the new requirement will affect each student in different ways.

If you are a working on a business degree and have not yet been certified into your Management and Operations or MIS major, please watch your mail for your upcoming letter and APR. When you receive that information, please contact your advisor if you have any questions.
