Writing Portfolio Reminder

Distance Degree Programs students who have completed 60 credit hours but have not completed their WSU Writing Portfolios (WP99) had spring 2008 registration holds placed on their accounts by the Writing Programs Office. Writing Portfolio holds for DDP degree-seeking students must be removed by DDP, not by WSU Writing Programs.

Review the Writing Portfolio information online ( distance.wsu.edu/resources/wrtgport.asp). If you are not enrolled in WP 99, log in to My DDP and select WP 99 to request enrollment. Your first hold can be released when your WP 99 enrollment is processed and three papers or the exam have been submitted. If you have had two or more Writing Portfolio holds placed, you must complete the portfolio before the hold can be removed. Students are allowed two semesters to complete the portfolio.

Contact Myrna Davis at the DDP office (800-222-4978 or distance@wsu.edu) if you have questions or to request that a hold be removed

Return Rental Media by January 14, 2008 …Avoid Late Fees

DDP Media Rental Return Policy for Courses Completed Fall 2007:

DDP rental media is the property of Washington State University and must be returned to DDP. It is your responsibility to return the material by the deadline or you will incur one or more nonrefundable late fees. Students who do not return rental media by the January 14, 2008 deadline will be charged a late fee. Students could incur up to two additional late fees for failure to return rental materials. More information.

December Graduation Ceremonies

December Commencement Ceremonies will be held at Beasley Coliseum on the WSU Campus at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 8, 2007. For more information, please visit our web site at distance.wsu.edu , and click on “G” for Graduation in the Table of Contents.

Final Grade Posting

All term grades are due from faculty by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, December 18, 2007. Faculty are responsible for posting your grades and meeting this timeline if they have all of your completed work. Please make sure you understand course timelines and due dates. Final grades should be available to students by Thursday, December 20th, in myWSU, if not sooner. myWSU is your source to view all final grades and transcript information.

Get Ready for Spring Semester

This is a reminder that spring semester 2008 begins January 7, 2008. Registration is currently open. If you plan on registering for spring courses, please contact your DDP academic advisor if you have not done so already.

You should also order your textbooks from the Bookie as soon as possible to ensure you have them by the start of the semester.

If you need to check what materials will be required for your course, you can find that information in the Schedule of Classes; select the "More Information" link for the appropriate course.

Check out the Spring 2008 DDP Calendar for important dates and deadlines.

Flexible Enrollment Courses…Going, Going…

This is a reminder that Distance Degree Programs’ flexible enrollment courses are being phased out and converted to semester-based courses; after spring 2008 DDP will not offer any flexible enrollment courses. Students enrolling in a spring semester flexible enrollment course will still have the ability to extend the course up to two additional semesters, provided that all conditions of the extension policy are met.

Substantially fewer flexible enrollment courses were offered fall 2007 than in previous semesters, and only a few flexible enrollment courses are available spring 2008. The last day to register for spring 2008 flexible enrollment courses is February 5, 2008.

Most flexible enrollment courses have been converted to semester-based courses to provide a more dynamic learning experience for students. DDP semester-based courses follow the WSU calendar and must be completed by the end of the semester of enrollment.

ASWSU-DDP News & Events

  • ASWSU-DDP 2007-2008 Food Drive
Each year we have a community outreach project and this year it is a food drive for Northwest Harvest. Northwest Harvest distributes food and services around the state. We will be taking food collections at the Cougar Hardwood Classic in Seattle (Dec 20th) and the Tacoma Rendezvous (March 1st).

We will be raffling a WSU Football jersey at each of the above events. If you are long distance or close by, you can participate to! You don’t have to be present to win, just have the winning ticket. Send in a donation and your tickets will be sent to you. (Make checks out to “Northwest Harvest.”)

It’s as simple as that! We want to help fill the food banks during the time of year where there is the strongest demand on food banks. Let’s show Washington that DDP students care!

For more information or where to send your check, go to the ASWSU-DDP website, under “Hot Topics” click on Food Drive. http://www.aswsu-ddp.wsu.edu/

  • The New Hometown Locator!
Here is another tool for all DDP students to utilize. It is the Hometown Locator. It is a good way for students to find other students. All you have to do is log in, enter your information, and then search. We encourage students to log in and enter their information so that we can populate the program. As people sign up, students will be able to see were other students live so that study groups can be formed. (Addresses can be blocked by student.) This is going to be a great resource. Please check it out, fill out the form, and see who is near you!

  • We are losing some of our members to Graduation!
While losing some of our quality ASWSU-DDP members is sad, it is also a happy time. They get to graduate but the vacancy they leave needs to be filled. We are looking for DDP students who are creative, innovative, and want to make a difference. Age does not matter. We have committees that are here to help enhance and broaden the DDP experience but need your expertise to do that. It is really a lot of fun. There is something for everyone, please join us. Visit the ASWSU-DDP website for more information at: aswsu-ddp.wsu.edu/committees/2007-2008/.

Get involved! You will be glad you did.
