Courses offered by Washington State University's College of Education through Distance Degree Programs are listed below according to the program to which they apply. Some courses may apply to more than one program and be used to fulfill the following needs:

  • Certification or Endorsement as appropriate.
  • Master's program credit: Students who want to apply the credits from these courses to a master's program must be admitted to the Graduate School at the time of enrollment and have approval from their graduate program advisor or committee (students may not be able to apply courses taken without prior approval to a master's program).
  • Personal professional development: Students can take these courses for their own enrichment as a non-degree student without being associated with a specific program or degree.

   PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAM (PCP) COURSES

The following apply to all Professional Certification Program courses:
  • Delivery: Courses may be offered on-site at specific locations or online. See the WSU Schedules of Classes for what is offered by semester (Schedules of Classes; choose DDP campus option).
  • Tuition: Tuition will vary depending on delivery on-site or online. Contact Ashley Herridge for specific information (ashleyh@wsu.edu).
  • Admission: WSU admission is required as a graduate student (How To Apply).
  • Registration: Students, regardless of location, register on the DDP campus in myWSU (see WSU/DDP Registration below).

    College of Education School and Community Collaboration Center: Professional Certification Program
  • T & L 541—Pre Assessment Seminar for Professional Certification (3 cr)
    Prereq: Admission to Professional Certification Program (PCP). Participants learn the elements of excellence in professional practice with a focus on educational research. Provides an opportunity to develop a professional growth plan, (PGP) reflect on personal practice, and begin gathering evidence from one’s professional work to demonstrate a positive impact on student learning.

  • T & L 543—Culminating Seminar for Professional Certificate (2 cr)
    Prereq: T & L 541. The Culminating Seminar provides the opportunity for teachers to synthesize the evidence and supporting materials they will provide in a portfolio to the PGT. Teachers will work in teams to refine their portfolios and provide peer review of portfolio materials. Additionally, the Culminating Seminar will conclude with a review of the requirements for certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

  • T & L 499—Gathering Evidence Advanced Track (1 cr)
    Prereq: Must qualify as Advanced Track Candidate. Participants will research and examine best practices in the teaching profession as they apply to their field and context. Evidence must demonstrate positive impact on student learning. Professional Certification portfolio will be completed and submitted for assessment.

  • Ed Ad 520—Seminar in Curriculum and Instruction [Gathering Evidence] (2 cr)
    Prereq: T & L 541. Participants will research and examine best practices in the teaching profession as they apply to their field and context. Participants will continue to develop evidence for their Professional Certification portfolio based on best practices. Evidence will demonstrate positive impact in student learning.
   ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) ENDORSEMENT COURSES

The following apply to all courses for English as a Second Language Endorsement:
  • Delivery: Courses are delivered online. See the WSU Schedules of Classes for what is offered by semester (Schedules of Classes—Pullman students choose Pullman campus; students outside Pullman choose DDP campus).
  • Tuition: DDP Semester-based Tuition
  • Textbooks & Course Materials: Student's responsibility; order online or from the WSU Bookie (Bookie)
  • Admission: WSU admission is required as a graduate student (How To Apply) or non-degree undergraduate (Application).
  • Registration: Students register in myWSU— Pullman students register on Pullman campus in myWSU; students outside Pullman register on the DDP campus (see WSU/DDP Registration below).

Courses Currently Available: NOTE: Additional courses to complete the endorsement online will be developed in the future but a development schedule is not available at this time.


WSU/DDP Registration

All College of Education courses require registration through the WSU online registration system in myWSU (myWSU), using a WSU Network ID (NID) and password to log in. In myWSU, select Academics/Planning/Add & drop classes" or "Academics/Learning/Add, drop, withdraw" to register.

Students who do not have a WSU Network ID can create one using the WSU ID number they received upon receiving an admission status (About the Network ID). Students who have not applied for graduate or undergraduate admission should contact DDP (800-222-4978 or distance@wsu.edu) and indicate they have a question about registering for education courses.
